Mount Sinai Evangelical Mission Church

WORKING WITH THE LOCAL CHURCH

Local church partnership is a crucial part of TOLM. Accordingly, we work with Mount Sinai Evangelical Mission Church in Magdalena, Milpas Altas, Guatemala. In 1996, the church began, in a small rented shack, as a small congregation of 8 adults and 7 children. The church sought God, was sensitive to his direction, and sensed God speaking to them. One day, a pastor came and shared a prophesy that God would expand His kingdom in Magdalena. The church has witnessed God respond.

Leadership & Vision

Pastor Mario Méndez currently serves as the pastor of Mount Sinai. His son, Pastor Mario Méndez (Marito) serves as the associate and youth pastor. Many years ago, Pastor Mario had the vision to start a Christian school at the church, have medical clinics, and host other ministries to serve the people and produce a major impact within the families of the community of Magdalena. Today, much of this has come to pass. Mount Sinai Christian School has been formed and is located at the school. Medical clinics are occasionally held at the church. Mount Sinai Church is a light to the community of Magdalena and serves the people in many ways.

Expansion

Today, the church has the vision to continue expanding God’s kingdom in Magdalena and surrounding communities. The church has a small sanctuary and a children’s building. The current building space is not large enough to continue to grow. The members of the church have worked hard and paid for land next to the church and are praying for God’s provision in continuing to grow. The hope is to build a larger sanctuary on the land and the smaller sanctuary could be converted to space for the school.

Growth

The church has also grown in numbers. Collectively, there are now 400 members comprised of adults, youth, and children. The church has been developing and strengthening their youth group. They now hold a youth service every Sunday evening and there are small groups for the youth that meet during the week. They are committed to reaching the next generation for Christ and are so excited to see the youth group grow.

Church Planting

Mount Sinai Church is also engaged in church planting. Almost ten years ago, Mount Sinai planted a church in El Gorión, one of the surrounding communities. A second church was planted in 2013 in Mixco, near Guatemala City. In 2015, Mount Sinai also planted a church in Sololá near Lake Atitlan.

Blessed

God has blessed Mount Sinai Evangelical Mission Church greatly over the past several years and all glory goes to God. We are honored to partner with this church in our ministry, to serve and worship God together.
